Why wholesale feels harder than it should

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • You uploaded your products to Faire, expecting orders to roll in. They didn’t.

  • You drafted emails to stores you’d love to work with, but never sent them because you didn’t want to bother people or say the wrong things.

  • You lower your prices, thinking that is what buyers care about (Spoiler. It’s not.)

  • Or, you’re further along. You have accounts and you’ve done shows… but reorders are unpredictable, growth has flattened and the sales strategies you duct-taped together are showing their seams.

Most folks think this is a product problem. None of this is a product problem.

here’s what we often see.

You send out a wholesale pitch to a store you love.

The buyer opens the email and looks at your Faire shop. They immediately see that your prices, your MOQ or your opening order amounts do not align with others in the industry.

They pause and wonder why you’re different.

The buyer closes the browser, makes a mental note that you’re not right for their store and moves on to one of the other 40 pitches in their inbox.

this happens daily.

And the worst part?

You never even find out you were close.

The buyer isn’t going to email you and tell you what you’re doing wrong.

They don’t have time for that. It’s also not their job.

So, you keep sending pitches and getting little to no response.

You have NO IDEA what is quietly collapsing your sales.
But there will be signs.

You’ll see the quiet months between markets.
You’ll wonder why reorders aren’t coming in consistently.
You’ll question whether your pricing and MOQ are correct.

Growth will be slow and you’re left feeling like you’re falling behind.

Meanwhile your friends & competitors are landing accounts you want, celebrating consistent reorders and posting trade show wins.

What do they know that you don’t know?

They aren’t more talented. Their products aren’t better. They aren’t winging it.

They’re building a repeatable sales system & they are not doing it alone.

Andrew Fegler of That's So Andrew, Paper Camp alum leaves testimonial

"If you're selling wholesale or wanting to β€” take the dang program and save yourself the future mistakes πŸ’™

In week 2 of Paper Camp, Katie told me not to undersell myself to a big box buyer I was negotiating with and that advice alone made me an extra 6k on one order."

andrew FEGLER, that’s so andrew

This repeatable sales system has a name:
The paper camp framework
Katie Hunt's first trade show booth in 2009, rebuilt overnight after a fire marshal shut her down.

My first trade show in 2009.
It did not go AS planned.

When I started my stationery brand in 2008, I did what most makers do… a little bit of everything, in no particular order and stretched myself too thin.

I pitched stores before my pricing was right.
I printed a catalog with incorrect terms & conditions.
I bought way too much inventory, way too early.

Each of those mistakes cost me money, time and effort… and they all taught me a valuable lesson…

SELLING WHOLESALE ISN’T BUILT ON LUCK

You can build one fluid system and the order in which you do things matters. That’s the idea the Paper Camp Framework is built on.

The Paper Camp Framework: four steps in order β€” Product Line, Sales Tools, Marketing Strategies, Trade Shows. Each step builds on the last.

THE PAPER CAMP WHOLESALE FRAMEWORK

β†’ Your product line comes first because if your pricing or margins are off, you’re losing money on every order going out the door. And, more sales won’t fix that.

β†’ Sales tools come second because when you make it easier for buyers to purchase from you, they buy more frequently and in higher volume.

β†’ Pitching comes third because even great outreach falls flat if what you’re pitching isn’t ready yet.

β†’ And, trade shows are the optional last step because a show is fuel for a system that is already working.

Each step feeds the next. Skip one and you’ll feel it later.

Selling wholesale doesn't have to feel like a dozen separate problems.

it’s one cohesive system & the order you build it matters.

This is also why the advice that you’ve heard a hundred times online hasn’t worked… β€œjust get on faire” or β€œjust pitch more stores”. Those tactics fall flat if you’re missing core pieces like correct wholesale pricing, MOQ and opening order minimums.

Selling on Faire or pitching more stores are single pieces in a larger puzzle. One piece doesn’t do much on its own. And, if you’re missing pieces, you’ll never complete the puzzle.

The Paper Camp wholesale framework works at every size, whether you sell to 3 stores or 300.

I learned all of this the hard, expensive way, then spent 15 years and 47 rounds of Paper Camp refining the process with thousands of brands.

You get to skip the hard part.

Four weeks, one framework, with coaches providing tailored feedback as you go.

Why this matters more than one good order

It’s been fifteen years since I taught the first round of Paper Camp in 2011. In that time, alumni have gone from working at their kitchen tables to $2M+ in annual sales. One even got to $10M in annual revenue. Some built teams. A few sold their businesses.

Here's the detail that tells me our process works...

retailers can spot a Paper Camp alum from their first order.

Before they’ve ever met the maker behind the brand. (You’ll hear from a few of those store owners further down this page.)

That’s what I want for you.

Not one lucky order… a wholesale business that doesn’t hinge on luck, an algorithm, or a platform changing its rules overnight.

When a buyer can see that you know what you’re doing before they’ve ever met you? That’s when selling wholesale gets fun.

Three starting points. One repeatable sales system.
Different levels.
Different products.
Different challenges.
Same Paper Camp framework.
Handmade products displayed in a retail shop

lisa was brand new to selling wholesale

She uploaded her home decor products to Faire, crossed her fingers and waited… nothing happened. Traffic was low and sales were non-existent.

After Paper Camp? Lisa saw 4,000% increase in wholesale orders year over year.

Handmade candles displayed in a styled photo

sarah wanted to pitch bigger stores

But fear kept her frozen. She worried about saying the wrong thing, not having enough inventory, being forced to negotiate on the pricing of her artisanal candles. So, she did nothing.

After Paper Camp? Sarah landed a $100,000+ purchase order less than 2 years later.

Art tools displayed on a desk

AMBER needed stronger foundations, but didn’t know it.

Her wholesale pricing was off across all product categories. Her terms & conditions were unclear. She was winging it, and buyers could tell.

After Paper Camp? Amber went from 15 stores to 200+ stores in 2.5 years.

What Changed for them?

They stopped guessing.

None of them found a magic trick. They got the same three things that you’ll get in Paper Camp.

βœ“ The Paper Camp Framework, adapted to YOUR business. The process that’s worked for thousands of brands β€” plus, coaching to adapt it for you business. Whether you’re brand new (build it right the first time) or experienced but stuck in the messy middle (we’ll find the gaps you can’t see from inside your business).

βœ“ Answers to YOUR specific questions, every single day. Not generic advice. Solutions for your products, your pricing, your outreach. Indecision and overthinking get replaced with clarity and next steps.

βœ“ People in your corner. Coaches, mentors, and a cohort of product brands who understand exactly what you’re building and how to get there. The result? You take action instead of spinning in place.

β€œPaper Camp was the best thing I ever did for my business. Katie

gives you relevant information with actionable steps that actually lead to results without fluff and filler. It’s very information dense but in a good way.

You’re getting meat and potatoes as soon as you sit down at the table.”

Paper Camp isn't a course.
It is a hands-on coaching program that will reshape
how you run your entire product business.

Banner-Mastermind.jpg

You don’t have to figure this out alone. You can just ask.

Here’s what a regular Tuesday in Paper Camp looks like:

You’re reworking your terms & conditions and you hit a wall β€” you’re not sure if your minimums will scare off the indie shops you want to work with.

So you post the questions in the class community.

Before the day is out, you have an answer.

Sometimes from Katie. She’s in the community answering questions every single day. Sometimes from one of our coaches, every one of them a Paper Camp veteran and expert in the industry.

Not a canned answer. An answer tailored to your specific circumstances. Your product line, your margins, your stores.

That’s the level of care you get for all four weeks:

✨ Katie is in your class community daily. You’re coached by the person who built the framework β€” not handed off to a moderator.

✨ Every question answered same-day. No digging through modules hoping your situation is covered somewhere.

✨ Personalized feedback. Your pricing, your terms & conditions, your pitch emails. This is your chance to pick our brains.

✨ Mentors who were you. They’ve stood at their first trade show booth, sent the scary first pitch, negotiated the big orders. Now they are coming back to Paper Camp to help you do the same.

We intentionally cap the size of every class to help keep it this way.

Past students describe it as β€œ1-1 coaching support within a group setting”

You're not a lead, a number or a quota to us.

You're a human building a business.
Who deserves support.

For four weeks, we’re building it with you.

Paper Camp pays for itself much faster than most people realize β€” a jar of coins with a sprouting plant.

paper camp pays for itself

much faster than most people realize!

most paper camp students make their $1999 tuition back through a mix of the following.

πŸ‘‰ Landing just a few new wholesale orders
If your average wholesale order is $200, just 10 new orders = covers the cost of Paper Camp.

πŸ‘‰ Increasing pricing, minimums, AOV & reorder rate
If you increase your AOV from $100 to $250, you’re paid off after 14 orders.

πŸ‘‰ Using our exclusive vendor discounts to lower costs
If you reduce your production costs by $1 per unit & you’re ordering 250 units per style, 8 SKUS to recoup your costs.

πŸ‘‰ Skipping the trial & error phase
Cut your implementation time from 20 hrs to 4 hrs, and those 16 hours go back into revenue-generating work. Time is money!

Run your own numbers through the ROI calculator!

One thing we won't do: promise you a revenue number.
Anyone who promises you specific revenue from a coaching program is lying to you, and you'd be right not to trust them. What we can promise is the framework β€” pricing that's profitable on every order, a catalog buyers want to shop, and a pitch & follow-up rhythm that puts your product in front of the right stores.

I've Been Where You Are… AND i can help you get to your next level.

I started my product brand in 2008, jumped into wholesale within 6 months and exhibited at my first international trade show in 2009.

You already know about my expensive first years β†’ the pricing that was wrong, the too-much inventory, the catalog that screamed amateur.

But here’s the part I didn’t mention: the fire marshal shut down my very first trade show booth 18 hours before the show started.

Cue a mad dash to Ikea, an overnight rebuild and a booth that looked nothing like I had spent months planning. 🫠 😭

I didn't know what I didn't know. And it was expensive.

But I figured it out. And in 2011, I created Proof to Product so you’d never have to learn the hard way, like I did.

You're learning from the original wholesale mentors. Not a version of the system, not someone who learned it last year from us β€” the source.

8 years running my own brand. 15 years coaching. 2 MBAs (marketing & finance). 47 rounds of Paper Camp. 450+ podcast episodes. And 35,476+ brands who've trusted Proof to Product to guide their growth.

But here's what I'm most proud of: the ripple effect. Our alumni don't just build successful wholesale businesses. They become leaders in their communities, employers who create jobs, and mentors who lift others up.

I’m honored they let us play a small part in their journey. We’d love to work with you, too.

is paper camp right for me?
Map showing Paper Camp students across five continents. Industries served include apparel, baby and kids, bath and beauty, candles, consumer gifts, food and beverage, home and kitchen, party decor, pet products, stationery, jewelry and more.

I'm New to Wholesale

Is Paper Camp right for me?

Yes! If you know that you want wholesale to be a primary revenue stream OR you're considering it, then Paper Camp is for you. You'll want to focus on the Foundational lessons in each section before moving into the Growth Strategies.

You'll keep access to your Paper Camp coursework for as long as we offer the program, so you can move at the pace you need and refer back to the videos, workbooks and lessons when needed.

I'm in over 100 stores

WILL PAPER CAMP HELP ME EXPAND FURTHER?

Yes! You'll want to start by reviewing the Foundational lessons to make sure your bases are covered, then move into the Growth Strategy lessons for more advanced content.

We have folks in our community who sold to dozens of stores before coming to Paper Camp and scaled that to hundreds or thousands of stores with a year of attending Paper Camp

Can you continue growing wholesale on your own successfully? Yes.

Will Paper Camp fill in holes you may be missing, expedite your results and save you money? Also, yes.

I don't sell stationery

Will Paper Camp work for my products?

Yes! We work with a wide range of brands selling candles, apparel, food & beverage, toys, home decor, craft kits, bath & beauty, consumer gifts, stationery and more.

Our focus is on business building rather than the product creating and our methods are appropriate for all types of product categories.

Our roots are in the stationery industry and we've been running this program since 2011 as Paper Camp. The name stuck.

I've done trade shows

Will I learn something new here?

Yes. Many Paper Camp students came to us after a failed or mediocre trade show. Shows definitely have their benefits when done right, but if done wrong they can be a costly and time consuming endeavor.

All this to say... if you want to continue doing shows, we'll help you identify areas of improvement by going through Paper Camp. And, if you don't want to do shows, we'll show you lots of other ways to acquire and retain wholesale customers.

I don't live in the U.S.

Will this program work for me?

Yes! We work with brands located all over the globe who successfully sell their products to stores domestically and internationally.

While there is nuance to consider for everyone’s individual location and circumstances, the sales and marketing strategies that we teach in Paper Camp are applicable worldwide.

If strategies need to be adapted for your situation, we’re happy to work through that with you.

I've taken other programs

They didn't work. Will this be different?

Yes! You haven’t taken ours. No one teaches wholesale the way we do. And, no one has been teaching wholesale for as long as we have. We have countless clients that have taken other courses, memberships or programs and said they finally got results in Paper Camp.

You can be assured that your unique questions can be asked and answered inside the community. We got you.

frequently asked questions

+ What is the investment?

Paper Camp tuition is $1,999, and we haven't raised the price in five years even as the tools, templates, partner discounts and curriculum have grown. (Alumni regularly tell us to raise it. We see you. Please stop giving us ideas. 🫢🏼) Extended payment options are available at checkout through Klarna or Afterpay.

+ How quickly will I make back my investment?

Faster than you think. If your average wholesale order is $200, just 10 additional orders covers your entire tuition and that's before counting better pricing, higher minimums, more reorders and our exclusive vendor discounts. Run your own numbers in the ROI calculator above.

Our alumni regularly tell us Paper Camp helped them close more accounts, increase reorders, and finally feel in control of their wholesale growth.

+ Are payment plans available?

Yes. Extended payment plans are available at checkout through Klarna and Afterpay, including 0% interest options to those that qualify.

+ When does Paper Camp Registration Close?

Doors close Wednesday, August 26 at 11:59pm PT or as soon as all the seats are taken - whichever comes first. Class starts the following Monday, so there are no extensions on this one.

+ When does Paper Camp start & finish?

Class starts August 31 and ends September 25, 2026.

+ How much time does it take each week?

Plan on 3–4 hours a week for the four weeks. Live calls are Wednesdays at 9am PT plus the bonus Alumni Roundatble call on Friday, Sept 25 at 9am PT. Every call is recorded, so nothing depends on your calendar cooperating.

Alumni have done Paper Camp with newborns, day jobs, and day to day business running in the background. We built this program for folks running a business & the schedule that goes along with that.

+ When are the live coaching calls?

Coaching calls will be held at 9am Pacific Time on the following days: September 2, 9, 16 and 23. Plus, a bonus Alumni Roundtable call on Friday September 25 at 9am Pacific Time.

All calls are recorded, and you can submit questions in advance if you can't attend live.

+ If I miss this round, when is the next one?

Paper Camp usually runs twice a year, and Round 48 is the last cohort of 2026. The next round will be sometime in 2027. Enroll now and you walk into the winter buying season with your pricing fixed, your catalog ready, and the framework working for you. Wait, and an entire buying cycle comes and goes before doors open again.

+ Will you audit my wholesale catalog in Paper Camp?

Yes! Catalog audits happen in week 2, with links due by September 4th. We review your catalog, make notes, and record a screen-share video walking you through ideas to make it a stronger sales tool.

These are best for folks who already have a catalog and want fresh eyes on it. If you don't have a catalog yet, this isn't the audit for you.

Please note this is an optional upgrade. We only do a limited number of audits each round, and the fee is $99 (normally $249). You can add it to your order when you enroll.

+ Why do you cap the number of Paper Camp students?

Because our students get better results in small classes. Our coaches are active in the class forum every day, providing tailored feedback for your unique business. Past students say it feels like 1:1 coaching within a group setting. That only works when we limit seats. Ever been in a Facebook group with hundreds of people where your question got lost in the shuffle? That doesn't happen here.

+ Is Paper Camp Right For My Business?

Paper Camp is designed for brands that want to sell their products to more stores. We teach wholesale foundations as well as advanced tactics, and they apply across industries. Our students range from brand new product businesses to companies doing 7 figures annually. Most are already manufacturing and selling their products, but not all. If you're selling wholesale, or trying to decide whether wholesale is right for you, you're in the right place.

+ Can my business partner and I share our login?

No β€” seats are sold individually and are not transferable or shareable. We do offer discounts for groups of 2 or more from the same company; email hello@prooftoproduct.com for details. Only registered individuals are admitted to the classroom and community. See our terms & conditions: https://www.prooftoproduct.com/pce-tos

+ Will this course include vendor recommendations?

Yes! We share our vendor resources for manufacturers, printers, packaging supplies, booth vendors, professional services and more. Plus, our students receive exclusive discounts not available publicly.

+ How long do I have access to the program?

You'll have daily access to our coaches and the class community for the 4 weeks Paper Camp is in session. After that, two things are yours to keep: membership in the Paper Camp alumni community (included with your enrollment), and access to your coursework, templates and call replays for as long as we continue offering the program.

+ I have another question not answered here, can I email?

Of course! We know investing in a program like Paper Camp is a big decision. Email hello@prooftoproduct.com and we'll answer anything else. And if we honestly think another resource is a better fit for your business, we'll point you there instead.

+ What are your terms of service?

By enrolling in this course, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the terms & conditions detailed at https://www.prooftoproduct.com/pce-tos Highlights: courses are sold to one person and may not be shared, distributed or resold in any form; sharing logins, recordings or worksheets will result in revoked access; due to the digital nature of this product, no refunds are available β€” but we know life happens, so if you run into a problem, email hello@prooftoproduct.com. Real talk. Paper Camp is not a good fit for everyone.

PAPER CAMP MAY NOT BE HELPFUL FOR:

β€’ People who do not have a business.
- People who do not have a product they are actively selling.
β€’ People who have no interest in selling wholesale.
- People who want to focus on licensing or DTC / retail sales.
- People who need a 1:1 coach or consultant & can afford that price tag.
- People who are not ready to implement what they learn.
- People who need help with business planning, branding, social media growth, operations & team management. We cover these topics in other PTP programs.

and this last one is important…
- People who will experience financial strain by enrolling. We care for your well-being and financial health. We offer a large catalog of free resources that will help you get started with wholesale and grow your revenue. When you are ready, we will be here.

STUDENTS WHO THRIVE IN PAPER CAMP SHARE 6 KEY THINGS:

  1. A clear vision for their product line & business trajectory.

  2. A strong desire to prioritize wholesale growth.

  3. Some experience selling physical products.

  4. They take action on what they learn.

  5. They think critically & adapt strategies to their unique circumstances.

  6. They actively participate in our community & coaching sessions.
